New DVD and Blu-Ray Releases to Crave: A Fond Farewell to Harry Meets The Change-Up

For anyone who has been wild about Harry since J. K. Rowling first put pen to paper, seeing the last film in theaters may have been like bidding an old friend goodbye.

1) Fear not Potter fans, the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 gives you one last glimpse at the boy wizard and providing you go with this release, plenty of extras as well. Additional scenes, a look at Goblins and a studio tour, not to mention a cast-hosted Maximum Movie Mode are just some of the features you'll find. However, for once I find myself holding off if only because I just know they're gearing up for an ultimate Blu-Ray box set that I will splurge on once it becomes available. If you already have earlier movie on Blu-Ray, you should go with this no question.

2) Ryan Reynolds kind of had a bummer of a summer, what with the disappointment of Green Lantern and also the underperformance of The Change-Up. However, having seen Green Lantern, I have to say I don't see how The Change-Up could be worse. Plus, you have Jason Bateman - I'm not expecting a chorus of angels here, but there has to be a few chuckles along the way.

3) If you like literary adaptations, you can also try your hand with Atlas Shrugged Part 1. I, for one, have always stayed far away from Ayn Rand. Plus, it looks like this version keeps the characters but updates the setting. Whether these is enough demand for a Part 2 remains to be seen.

On the Blu-Ray front, things are led by the delightfully twisted David Lynch masterpiece Blue Velvet where you can find a severed ear, Dennis Hopper hopped up on nitrous oxide, a creepy sing-a-long with Dean Stockwell and the fresh-faced talent of Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern. All in all, this is a trippy trip worth taking. If you like dark comedies, they don't get much darker than To Die For as Nicole Kidman plays a local housewife-turned-journalist who will do just about anything to land a big story. Probably my favorite Kidman film, as she usually rubs me the wrong way. This, however, is more up my alley. Don't worry if you're looking for something more lighthearted. You can always join the wacky race antics of Burt Reynolds, Roger More, Dom DeLuise and more in The Cannonball Run. Hey, the classics never die, right?

There are plenty of other movies to explore this week, just check them out on the FilmCrave New DVD Releases and FilmCrave New Blu-Ray Releases pages today.
